Tuesday Top Five: Science Museums
March 10, 2009
There's something about little kids and science. Almost every young kid loves learning more about what, when we get older, can be very dry topics. But children's boundless curiosity, and some talented museum curators, can spark an interest that could maybe stay with a child their entire life.
Here are some of the more interesting science museums in the area:
The Exhibit Museum at the University of Michigan has all kinds of neat things, including dinosaur bones. If you've got a little dino fiend in your house, this is the place to be. And best of all? It's free.
Other science or natural-history themed spots in Ann Arbor is the University's Museum of Zoology as well as the Ann-Arbor Hands-On Museum .
Looking for a little closer to home? There's of course the Detroit Science Center, which focuses mostly on the physical sciences. The music exhibit is a favorite, and so is the Kids Town area which is just so cool for little ones. There's a water feature, art area, and several other fun things to do arranged like a main street in a town.
And there's also Cranbrook Museum of Science, which I am not as familiar with. It's more natural-history based, and has a planetarium and an anthropology gallery.
And one of the best things? Through just enjoying time at a science museum or exhibit with your little one, you might be able to fill in some gaps in your own science education.
